Patience...

They tell me it's a virtue, but it's hard to remember when you have no internet and no idea when it's going to get fixed, you have one of the most challenging three year olds on the planet, exams for four other children looming again, and a  rainy season to beat all rainy seasons...

For some reason we lost our internet connection last month, and of course this being Algeria there was no reason given, no soloution suggested and alot of unhappy people in my house. When we were in the UK we enjoyed having access to the internet... here we rely on it. It's our link to family and friends, it's our main resource for info,  & with a lack of books to dip in and out of  it helps keep us sane during the couple of winter months when nothing happens but rain, rain and MORE rain.
It came back yesterday... we hope it stays but can't be completely sure so we'll enjoy it while it's here and just get on with life when it's gone I guess.

It's still raining here... we're still leaking and still living communally in our front room. Some days the sky is so heavy with cloud the mountains can't even be seen from my window. One of my first tasks this morning was to check the weather for the week ahead, and it's not looking too clever. It means we'll be sleeping en masse a bit longer and ignoring the upper level of our house till the rain finally gets gone and spring comes our way.
To be honest it's all good. One way or another it's okay for the present.. inshallah it's all temporary and things will get better. I find it relatively easy to put it all into perspective these days and get on with it.. I think some in my house have a harder time dealing with the hardships. I have to admit that having to heat water on the stove every time you need a shower or water for hot water bottles is a bit tiresome, and having no heating is a bit of a drag, but there's always hot tea and something freshly baked to compensate... and having said that it's time to get myself into the kitchen for the daily cookathon...

Oh and did I mention that both our female cats littered a couple of weeks ago... we now have two adult females with 9 kittens between them....
So if anyone want's a cat ......

  1. Assalyamu aleykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, May Allaah reward you Ohti with good in this life and next one amiin. Our internet has been terrible as well. It is very frustrating cause I did not speak with my husband for a week now, just cannot connect to any messengers (yahoo, skype or msn). Anyone I try to speak about my troubles, they just do not get me. Life here is viewed in different dimensions. What is left for someone like us is Sabr sabr and one more time sabr. I understood why you were talking about chocolate. My daughter and I having our "chocolate breaks" on a regular basis at least couple of times a week. It helps A LOT in situations that go sometimes beyond ones patiences.
If you ever consider our invitation and come and visit us, share with us our "chocolate break", we will be delighted to give one of your kittens home inshaAllaah. BarakAllaah fikum, big hug.

    1. I agree that patience is a must here, life just travels at a totally different pace and you either have to resign yourself and roll with it or be prepared to get extremely frustrated. I'm finding it alot easier these days, the things that frustrated me beyond the bounds of normality a couple of years ago hardly seem to matter these days. I think my eldest children find it harder being here and coping with the daily struggles... I have yet to figure out how to help them find dome balance. I would love to join you in one of your choccy breaks!!! I've been trying to get to you for ages, and that I guess is another one of the frustrations of being here, realising that overall you're destined to see way less of everyone than you ever expected. Inshallah I'll do my best to see you in the school holidays this month :)
And you're very welcome to a kitten... they're lovely mashallah
