Apple Pie...



is comfort food at its best...
unfortunately I forgot to bring my pie plate with me when I came to Algeria,
So when we had a glut of apples to get through we had to improvise a little.
We made a sweet pie crust recipe,
anyone will do...
And then we added to it unpeeled, sliced apples
cinnamon, sugar and sultanas.
We didn't work with weights or measures (except for the pastry)
Just filled the pastry, which we rolled into a disc untill it looked like it couldn't hold much more..
then folded the edges up and around it to make a crust.
And there we have it, a wonderful rustic looking pie..
We had ours with ice-cream, but could just have easily made a nice home made custard to go on top.

  1. Masha'allah, looks so yummy! I do love apple pie and miss it often! I'm sure I could eat the entire thing alone... haha! I would have to say here in the Sahara there is no real vanilla ice cream and I love warm pie with ice cream, I guess I will have to forgo that pleasure!
